  • Wix Tips: French data privacy guidelines require a "Decline All" option in cookie banners

Is your business based in France or do you get site visitors or customers from France? New French data privacy guidelines require a "Decline All" button option in your cookies banner on your website. To check whether your site receives French visitors, you can check your site analytics and view the country stats. (see the Traffic by location section of this page https://support.wix.com/en/article/understanding-wix-analytics-traffic-reports#traffic-by-location-report for detailed instructions on how to see your website traffic reports.) Wix state the following: "For sites based in France, or sites that receive visitors from France, the French data authority (CNIL) recently revised their guidelines on cookies and similar technologies. These guidelines state that visitors should be able to refuse non-essential cookies as easily they can give consent. To comply with the CNIL guidelines and, therefore, encourage trust from your site visitors, we recommend you add a Decline All button to your cookie banner." To add a "Decline all" button to your cookies banner on your Wix site, it is very simple by simply editing it in your cookie settings. You can find instructions on how to do this here: https://support.wix.com/en/article/adding-a-decline-all-button-to-your-cookie-banner

  • Tom Brady: A case study for us all on how to keep focused and achieve great things during a pandemic

Last night, Tom Brady and his team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did something incredible - they won the SuperBowl. For Quarterback, Tom Brady it was an almighty 7th Super Bowl win. A win with a team that he only joined this season (all previous 6 wins and last 20 years of his career were spent with his old team, the New England Patriots). Not to mention the fact that he is 43 years old … he has certainly defied the odds in a time where life has been uncertain and quite frankly scary. He took a leap of faith joining a new team, had a goal for this season and new team and he achieved it. “Everybody believed we could win,” Brady said. ”All year we believed in ourselves” . His strong sense of belief in himself and his new team is quite extraordinary given this season was plagued by the pandemic - a time in which everything was uncertain, irregular and unnerving for many of us. Pandemic or not, Tom Brady and his team persevered. They didn’t give up. Even when the Buccaneers were struggling mid season, he never seemed disheartened and instead rallied his team and built them back up. In a time in which many of us are struggling and looking for hope and inspiration, Tom Brady seems to be a great role model or hero to look up to. Just because times are hard and uncertain, keep focused on your goals, think of new ways to achieve them, think outside of the box and try doing them differently. Most importantly, don’t forget about your team - work together with your team and build that team up and keep them strong. Setting goals and building a strong team will help you achieve anything - whether its winning the NFL championship, or expanding your business during these uncertain times. Keep focused on the end goal (or touchdown).

  • Wix SEO tips and tricks: Long tail keywords and why they are important in improving your SEO

When clients ask us to set up their Wix SEO, we ask them to supply us with a list of ten keywords they would like their site found by in Google and other search engines. Most of the time the keywords we receive back from the client are one-word phrases, a business name or a location. But did you know we can add long tail keywords to your Wix SEO and that these actually perform better? And no it’s not some weird magical creature with a long tail, no dragons or mythical beasts here. A long tail keyword is a keyword that is longer and more descriptive containing anything from three words up. When setting up your SEO it is important to think of your competition and how many of your keywords they might also be using, what makes you stand out from the crowd as these are what should be used in your keywords. One-word keyword phrases such as “hairdresser” are extremely competitive with lots of people using them and someone searching for this will be presented with a vast amount of results from everything from hairdressing salons, hairdressing courses, famous hairdressers, products and more. Whereas those searching for “hairdressers in London specialising in rainbow hair colouring” knows exactly which service they are looking for and the location. The search results will likely be very specific and the searcher should be able to easily find a result that will interest them quickly (rather than scrolling through thousands of results as in the case of “hairdresser”) and then swiftly book their appointment. Reasons to focus on using long tail keywords when setting up your SEO: 1. Low competition - small business owners should always try and be as specific as possible in their SEO as this will help them get a better ranking as less people will be looking for those keywords than one generic keyword that everyone in your sector may use. 2. Better conversion rate 3. Better click-through rate 4. More personal searches - many people now search for things that are tailored for them, everything from “what should I have for lunch” to “what hairstyle suits my face shape” - so consider adding long tail keywords that may answer these searches. 5. The answer to voice search queries - with the rise of people using voice-activated devices, the way people searched the web has changed. People are instead asking questions out loud while driving, at a cafe or walking. And guess what? Using long tail keywords will mean you could be the answer to these trendy voice queries. • Pandemic Predictions: Online shopping is here to stay

Since the start of the global pandemic back in March 2020, we have seen a huge increase in the number of queries for eCommerce site designs, redesigns and editing work on eCommerce sites. Where business owners have been desperately trying to increase, improve or start their online presence and allow their customers to shop their products from home. This has been a worldwide trend, but particularly one we have seen in large numbers in South America, perhaps because of the lower numbers of business owners who had websites pre-pandemic, or perhaps due to the long quarantines and lockdowns this region has faced (as we write this Argentina is still in quarantine - the longest in the world). Business owners are no longer taking a wait and see approach to how their business will operate in a pandemic, and are instead being proactive about increasing their online presence, whether they sell clothes, baby items, accessories, coaching services through Zoom, or are restaurant owners looking to to deliveries or click and collect type services. Online shopping has been a huge success for those business owners who have implemented it during the pandemic and is now seen as an absolute necessity for their business to continue to operate during any further lockdowns and quarantines or reduced hours. “eMarketer recently predicted a $1.013 trillion holiday sales season for the retail sector as a whole — only the second season to top one trillion in history (and a 0.9 percent sales increase over last year). A majority of this growth is expected in online sales. Brick and mortar stores are expected to make up 81.2 percent of holiday sales, which is a 4.7 percent decline since last year. “ [source: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/358912] “It’s difficult to predict if online sales will continue to prevail, or if — whenever the virus is finally under control — consumers will return to their favorite brick and mortar establishments.” [source: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/358912] Original source/inspiration: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/358912

  • How to help your business prepare for additional COVID-19 shutdowns/lockdowns

The world is an unsettling place and life as a business owner can be extremely stressful with the uncertainty over local lockdowns and business shutdowns and changes in operating hours with little notice. It can be hard to predict what will happen next week let alone next month, so we've put together some suggestions on how to help your business prepare for the worst case scenario of new shutdowns or lockdowns in your area: - Make sure your business has an online presence so you can operate online if your physical store, office or premises has to close. Make sure you have a website that you can sell your products from, from clothes to food orders, Wix makes online shopping websites easy and fun to setup as well as shop from and are perfect for your customers as they are user friendly and have a separate mobile version of the site so customers can shop or order your food direct from their phones. Need help setting up your Wix website? Get in touch with our team today for a FREE quote! - Make sure you have social media accounts set up - we would recommend at least having Instagram and Facebook as they will allow you to keep your customers and clients up to date with what's going on with your business, from opening hours during lockdown, to new regulations and even special offers you might be running. Don't forget Wix sites can also be linked direct with your Facebook business page now so people can shop your Wix site from your Facebook page through your own Facebook shop (see https://support.wix.com/en/article/creating-a-facebook-shop-in-wix-stores ). You can also now sell products from your Wix site on Instagram too (see https://support.wix.com/en/article/connecting-your-instagram-account-to-your-wix-store ). - Don't forget to post regularly on your social media channels to ensure you keep your customers informed during any shutdowns or changes to opening hours. Pre-scheduling software like Buffer and Hootsuite are great ways to schedule your posts for the week in advance and get analytics on how those posts are doing. - Send out regular newsletters to your customers to keep them up to date with opening hours and special offers as well as how they can order your services/products online - this will help keep any disruption to a minimum and help you maintain your loyal customer base. - Be flexible! Think about how you can continue operating even with shutdowns, lockdowns and changes in operating hours: Staff - can they work from home? Go online - can you move some or all of your operations online so you can continue sales? Payment plans - your clients may need extra help during the pandemic. Think about having special offers, reduced fees if they pay early perhaps or offer them a payment plan where they can pay in instalments. Products - perhaps look at changing/improving your services or products to what your clients need in this climate - Don't be afraid to speak with your bank manager about potential loans or financial help during these uncertain times. At the end of the day, the world is a pretty unpredictable and uncertain place at the moment. No one really knows how the COVID-19 situation is going to go, or when it might end and life get back to a "new normal." But. having a plan in place for lockdowns helps you feel more organised, in control and prepared for the worst case scenario and also allows you to put in place a plan for your staff and keep them informed of your plans. And finally, a phrase to remember: "Tough times never last; but tough people do" - Robert H. Schuller.
